Entrevista a Sparzanza
Sparzanza son una banda sueca de stoner metal que están visitando nuestro país por segunda vez con su tour "Don´t Spare No Lives".
Tuvimos ocasión de hablar con Johan, bajista de la banda, acerca de este tour, su último disco y el futuro más próximo de la banda.
Entrevista en castellano
Galiza Metal: Hola chicos, bienvenidos a Galiza Metal y muchas gracias por dedicarnos vuestro tiempo.
Sparzanza: Muchas gracias a vosotras por dedicarnos vuestro tiempo.
GZM: Hace ya más de doce años que empezasteis en esto y habéis conseguido muy buenos resultados. ¿Ha sido duro el trayecto?
S: Ha sido un trabajo muy duro, no voy a mentir acerca de esto. Muchas horas en autobuses, en el local de ensayo, en los estudios, muchas reuniones... Pero al mismo tiempo ¡ha sido muy divertido! El resultado es la recompensa por todo el trabajo realizado. Así que en definitiva ha merecido la pena.
GZM: No hace mucho que “Circle”, vuestro séptimo trabajo, salía a la venta ¿cómo fue el proceso de grabación del disco?
S: Esta vez fue bastante relajado. Yo (Johan – bajo) y Anders (batería) empezamos grabando batería y bajo en “Leon Music” durante unos días, siempre es muy agradable grabar con Anders, puesto que es un tipo muy divertido además de un gran baterista. “Leon Music” es bonito estudio, alejado de la ciudad, muy tranquilo y relajado. La grabación de las guitarras corrió a cargo de Calles y Magnus que pasaron no sé cuántas horas de grabación... Después de eso volvimos a “Leon Music” para grabar las voces, realizar la mezcla y masterización. Terminamos la grabación con una gran fiesta en “Leon Music”, recuerdo que la resaca me duró varios días.
GZM: ¿Qué tal ha recibido el público este nuevo trabajo?
S: A nuestros fans parece gustarle mucho. Es nuestro disco más vendido hasta ahora, ¡lo cual es genial! Y las críticas en toda Europa son bastante sorprendentes, ¡lo que siempre es muy gratificante! Especialmente cuando proceden de websites más pequeños, porque suelen ser amantes de la música.
GZM: “Circle” es un disco muy diferente a todos vuestros anteriores trabajos ¿a qué se ha debido este cambio?
S: Creo que es porque no tenemos ningún límite cuando escribimos nuestras canciones. Nunca pretendimos que sonase muy diferente, simplemente pasó. Escribimos canciones buenas y ¡eso es todo! intentamos conseguir que fuese más natural, como hicimos en nuestro anterior álbum "Death is certain, Life is not".
GZM: En breves estaréis visitando España por segunda vez, contadnos ¿qué podremos encontrarnos en los directos de esta nueva gira?
S: Vamos a tocar algunas canciones del nuevo álbum "Circle" así como algunos de nuestros clásicos ¡Esperamos no decepcionaros!
GZM: Cartagena, Cordoba, Valencia, Madrid, Orense y Salamanca son las ciudades que visitareis en este Tour Don´t Spare No Lives, ¿qué expectativas tenéis en este tour?
S: Ya visitamos alguna de estas ciudades en nuestro último tour por España. Esperamos volver a reencontrarnos con todo ese público que asistió a nuestros concierto ¡fue muy divertido! Pero también espero conocer gente nueva tanto en los conciertos como en las fiestas postconcierto. Me he informado sobre algunos de los locales y todos parecen geniales, por lo que los conciertos van a ser brutales, estoy seguro.
Realmente espero que el clima sea mejor que la última vez que estuvimos en Madrid, nieve y mucho frío. La primavera en España supongo que debe ser increíble. Además de los conciertos, espero conocer gente nueva, el vino, la cerveza y visitar algunos lugares.
GZM: Vamos con la fecha que más nos interesa, el 28 de Febrero estaréis visitando Orense otra vez, ¿Que tal fue la acogida en vuestra anterior visita a la ciudad?
S: ¡Oh! Fue uno de los mejores espectáculos en esa gira. Un gran local y muy buena organización. También tuvimos un buen postconcierto en uno de los bares más pequeños que he visto, estaba en una plaza que llevaba el nombre de unos músicos o algo así. Estoy seguro de que repetiré esta vez también.
GZM: Este tour terminara el 1 de Marzo en Salamanca, ¿Qué es lo próximo que haréis después de vuestra visita a España?
S: Regresaremos a Suecia para prepararnos para nuestro tour por Suecia y Finlandia en marzo. También tenemos algunas actuaciones en el sur de Europa pero aún no están confirmadas, aunque no creo que tarden mucho en cerrarse. También vamos a terminar una grabación que dejamos a medias, de momento no podemos adelantar muchos sobre ella, ¡sed pacientes!
GZM: Se que aún es pronto para hablar de un nuevo disco, pero ¿tenéis en mente algo para ese futuro octavo trabajo?
S: Siempre estamos escribiendo nuevas canciones, pero como dijiste, es un poco pronto para hablar de un nuevo álbum. Tenemos ideas, muchas ideas, pero nada está decidido aún. Creo que tal vez nos centraremos en ello este otoño.
GZM: Bueno hasta aquí la entrevista, ha sido un placer hablar con vosotros y nuevamente os damos las gracias por vuestro tiempo y nuestra más sincera enhorabuena por este séptimo disco. Galiza Metal: Hey guys, welcome to Galiza Metal and thank you so much for taking your time.
Sparzanza: Thank you for taking YOUR time in covering Sparzanza! It is much appreciated!
GZM: More than twelve years ago you started on this and you have achieved very good results. Has it been very hard for you?
S: It has been a lot of hard work, I won’t lie about that. Several hours in tour buses, in the rehearsal room, in studios, in meetings and stuff. But at the same time it has been a fun ride! The results are the reward for all the hard work we have put into the band. So even though it has been a lot of work, it has not really been that hard.
GZM: Not much to Circle, your seventh album, went on sale. How was the recording process of the album?
S: It was quite relaxed this time. Me (Johan – bass) and Anders (drums) started out recording drum and bass in Leon Music for a few days! That is always a lot of fun, I love playing with Anders, since he is a fun guy and a great drummer. And Leon Music is a nice studio, a bit out on the countryside, very quiet and relaxed. The guitars was recorded at Calles (guitar) place where he and Magnus spend I don’t know how many hours recording the guitars. After that it was back to Leon Music for vocal recordings, mix and mastering. We ended the recording with a great party at Leon Music which gave me a hangover for several days.
GZM: What has received the public this new album?
S: Our fan seems to like it a lot. It is our fastest selling records so far I heard from the record label, which is nice. And the reviews throughout Europe are quite amazing. We have had such great reviews, which is always very nice! Especially when reviewed on smaller webzines and such, because those people are often music lovers.
GZM: Circle is very different from all your previous album record. Why this change?
S: I think it is because we did not have any boundaries at all when we wrote our songs. We never really intended to sound very different, it just happened. We wrote good songs and that’s it! The production was something we tried to get more natural. But we did that on the former album “Death Is Certain, Life Is Not” too.
GZM:Soon you will be visiting Spain for the second time, Tell us what we can find in the direct of this new tour?
S: Well we will play some songs from the new album “Circle” as well as some oldies off course! I know that no one will be disappointed!
GZM: Cartagena, Cordoba, Valencia, Madrid, Orense and Salamanca are the cities you will visit on this tour "Don't Spare No Lives", what expectations do you have for this tour?
S: We played some of those cities last time we were in Spain. I hope that we will meet some of the fans and friends that showed up last time, we really had fun. I am sure we will meet some new cool people before and after the shows. I have checked out some of the venues and they all seem very cool, so the shows are gonna be a blast, I am sure.
I really hope the weather is better than last time though, it was snow in Madrid then and pretty cold. Springtime in Spain I guess it will be, and that must be amazing.
Besides the shows, I look forward to meeting new people, the wine, the cervezas and to see some cool sights!
GZM: Let´s go with the date that most concerns us, the 28 February you will be visiting Orense again, How was the reception in your previous visit to the city?
S: Oh that was one of the best shows on that tour I remember. Cool venue and very good promoter there. We also had a very nice afterparty at one of the smallest bars I have ever been in. It was located in a square that was named after some musicians or something. I am sure you will find me there after the show this time too . :)
GZM: The tour ended first of March in Salamanca, what is the next thing you will do after your visit to Spain?
S: We are going back to Sweden to prepare ourselves for the upcoming tour in Sweden and Finland in march. We also have a few gigs in southern Europe that is not confirmed yet, but I think they will be very soon. We are also gonna finish a recording that we started. It is pretty secret now what song it is and when it will be released, but if you are patient, you will soon hear some new stuff from Sparzanza.
GZM: It is too early to talk about a new album, but do you have in mind something for a future album?
S: We are always writing new songs, but as you said, it is a bit early to talk about a new album. We have ideas, a lot of ideas, but nothing is decided yet. Not a direction or anything. I think that maybe we will concentrate on that this fall if the tour schedule is a bit less than now.
